In the Beginning
Jeremy was the very first model I ever photographed. I captured this image at a two day nude figure photography workshop through Tencasting. A group of six photographers participated in that workshop, and Jeremy was our sole model for the day.
As our host and instructor, Bob Stickel, told us, we were extraordinarily fortunate to be introduced to figure photography with such an accomplished and talented model.
There were many things to learn on that first day of the workshop, not the least of which, for me at least, was the concept that the photographer is responsible for conceptualizing the image he or she creates and is therefore responsible to guide the model's posing.
Of course it makes perfect sense, but it wasn't something I had considered before hand, and so it wasn't something I was prepared for.
Many of my first efforts over that weekend suffer from this, but this image, simple as it may be, does not. This image captures not only Jeremy's natural beauty, it also illustrates that some of the best nude images are simplest in composition and conception.
